Why even read about Finance
Well I did have some free time on my hands between Diwali - Christmas of 2025 and was contemplating on various career options I could pursue in the next 5 years or so.
Primary intuition behind this was most job postings require an advanced “Quantitative” degree, clubbed with 2+ yrs of work ex, something which I’ll be able to achieve till Aug’27, which roughly aligns with the start of the academic year, if I start applying in 2026, giving me good enough headroom to work with.
So to guage my interest in this field, I wanted to explore first
(and then exploit haha, someone’s been reading about MAB recently).
In the short term, can explore a. very small NPTEL courses, which have been very hard for me to follow, as I have little to no incentive to show up dilligently. b. Read books, compiled from quantnet and other similar resources. c. NISM certification courses, haven’t heard about this from people on linkedin, low trust. d. CFA part 1 covers basics of finance, and has some overlap with FRM curriculum, which is majorly for risk management.
Books
- Books compiled from various resources, on all things related to finance. Mentions what the book is about, and a short why to read this book. As time is precious, and reading books requires a lot of effort (given that I’ll purchase a hard copy), this helps to set up a priority list.
Quant Finance / Financial Engineering
- Everything quant. Well Quant on it’s own is a very strong niche to be pulled into.
Math
- Supporting Math / Stats - A compilation of quantitative foundations, econometrics, and specialized statistics modeling textbooks.
